Sanford, NC -
Kevin Rodriguez and Rob Slade posted 74's
to share the lead after Day 1. The
highlight of the day happened on Hole
#8. Aaron Babson made a
hole-in-one on the 178 yard Par 3.
The ace was his second at Tobacco Road
and his 4th overall.
The fireworks continued on Sunday as
Kevin and Rob spent most of the under
par. A double bogey on the Par 3
14th hole gave Kevin just enough
breathing room to coast it in, but Kevin
returned the favor with a double bogey
of his own on the Par 4 16th hole.
With his lead down to two, Kevin could
no longer afford simply thinking about the record setting
pace he was on and had to focus on staying
ahead of Rob (the Bogey Cup Tour's #1 Ranked
Golfer). Both Kevin and Rob pared
in to cap of a spectacular Tournament and
Final Round. The win is Kevin's
first TOC Title and his 16th Career Win
on the Bogey Cup Tour. On his way
to winning the tournament, Kevin
shattered the previous TOC Scoring
Record, of 150 by Wayne Moore in 2007,
with a two over par 2-day total of 144
(that included 1-under
par 70 on Sunday).
There was an early buzz at the tournament due to the decision to
play Tobacco Road from the tips. While the
reviews were mixed, the level a
play more than stepped up to accept the
challenge for the season's first Major.
The fields average score was 81.4
(compared to 80.7 last
year) and the cut was 81
(compared to 80 last
year). Next to the
record setting score, the only other
notable change was the number of rounds
in the 70s. Last year's the
field posted 12 rounds in the 70s while
this year's the
field posted only posted 9 rounds in the
70s.
